CAELAN is designed in Melbourne and made with a specialist manufacturing partner in China.
That is something I want to be open about, because where and how clothing is made matters. It matters to me as a founder, and I know it matters to the people who choose to support CAELAN.
When I started developing this range, I explored what it would take to make these garments locally. I would have loved for every part of CAELAN to be made in Australia. But the reality is that this range is not simple apparel. These are technical garments with carefully placed invisible zips, multiple access points, relaxed fits, soft fabrics and design details that need to work in real treatment settings.
I needed a manufacturing partner who could deliver the level of construction, consistency and detail these garments require, while keeping the final price as accessible as possible.
That is why I chose to work with one of the most well-regarded manufacturers in the Australian retail industry. They manufacture for some of Australia’s biggest and most recognised brands, and they understand the quality standards, fit expectations and production detail required for garments that need to look beautiful, wear well and perform properly.
Why the right manufacturing partner matters
Accessible clothing is not just standard clothing with a zip added to it.
Every opening needs to be considered. A sleeve zip needs to sit where arm access is actually needed. A chest zip needs to support port or PICC line access without opening the whole garment or leaving someone feeling exposed. Pants need to allow access while still feeling comfortable enough to sit in for long appointments.
The placement, finish and strength of every zip matters. So does the way the garment sits on the body, how the fabric handles repeated wear and washing, and whether the piece still feels like something you would choose to wear outside a treatment room.
This is why manufacturing was such an important decision. I needed a partner who could manage multiple technical details across each style and produce garments with consistency, and I wanted to work with a team that already had deep experience producing for the Australian retail market.
The zipper detail made a big difference
One of the biggest considerations in developing CAELAN was the zips.
Our garments use zips in very specific ways: sleeve access, chest access, side openings and leg access. They need to be discreet, functional and reliable. For CAELAN, the zips are not decorative. They are the reason the garments work.
Producing this level of zip construction in Australia was extremely expensive. It would have made the final garments much harder to access from a price point of view, which felt completely at odds with what I was trying to build.
CAELAN exists to make treatment days feel easier, warmer and less exposing. If the final price becomes too far out of reach for the people who need the product, then the purpose starts to fall apart.
Choosing a specialist manufacturing partner allowed me to keep the quality and technical design intact, while building a range that could be more realistically priced for customers.
Quality control is still personal
Manufacturing offshore does not mean stepping away from quality.
I have personally met with our manufacturer. I have visited, asked questions, reviewed samples, tested details, worked through fit and construction, and made decisions based on how these garments need to perform in real life.
This has never been about handing over a sketch and hoping for the best. It has been a careful development process, shaped by lived experience, patient insight and practical treatment needs.
Working with a manufacturer trusted by major Australian brands also gives me confidence in their capability, systems and understanding of what Australian customers expect from quality apparel. For CAELAN, that experience matters because the garments need to feel soft and wearable, but they also need to perform technically through repeated use.
I know what it feels like to sit in a treatment chair feeling cold and exposed. I know what it feels like when clothing gets in the way of access. So every design decision has been made with that reality in mind.

The idea, the purpose, the garment features and the customer experience have all been shaped here. This brand was created from my own experience of cancer treatment, and from conversations with patients, nurses and people who understand how small design details can make a big difference.
The manufacturing location does not change the heart of the brand.
CAELAN is Australian-designed. It is founder-led. It is shaped by lived experience. And it is built to support people through treatment and recovery with more comfort, dignity and ease.
Why affordability matters
There is an important conversation to have around quality and affordability.
I never wanted CAELAN to be throwaway clothing. These garments are designed to be considered, useful and long-lasting. But I also did not want them to sit at a price point that made them feel impossible for people already dealing with the financial and emotional load of treatment.
Treatment can be expensive. Time away from work can be expensive. Recovery can be expensive. When clothing is designed to solve a real problem, it needs to be as accessible as possible.
That does not mean cutting corners. It means making thoughtful decisions about where to invest, who to work with and how to create the best possible garment at the fairest possible price.
Made with purpose, not compromise
For CAELAN, manufacturing in China was not about making something cheap. It was about finding the right partner for a technical product.
It allowed us to create garments with multiple access points, discreet zips and considered construction. It allowed us to work with an experienced manufacturer already trusted by leading Australian retail brands. It allowed us to manage quality and detail at scale, while making the range more accessible to more people.
Most importantly, it allowed the design intent to stay intact.
Because the purpose of CAELAN is not just to make clothing. It is to make treatment days a little easier. To help people stay warm. To help them feel less exposed. To give access where it is needed, while allowing them to feel more like themselves.
